2025 Top 100 MLB Players: #45 - #41
#45. Logan Gilbert - Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners' Logan Gilbert continues to establish himself as one of the American League's most reliable starting pitchers. The 27-year-old right-hander is coming off his first All-Star season in 2024, when he led MLB with 208⅔ innings pitched while posting a 3.23 ERA.
Gilbert's success stems from his unique physical traits and pitch development. Standing 6'6" with unusually large hands, he creates deception with one of the longest extensions in baseball. This means he releases the ball closer to home plate than most pitchers, giving batters less reaction time.
What makes Gilbert special is his constant evolution as a pitcher. After learning a slider from Jacob deGrom in 2022, he added a splitter in 2023 and a cutter in 2024. His four-seam fastball consistently reaches 95 mph, complementing his ever-expanding arsenal.
Gilbert has earned a reputation for durability and efficiency, becoming a cornerstone of the Mariners' talented rotation alongside teammate George Kirby. On days he pitches, Gilbert adopts an intense alter ego named "Walter" - a focus technique that originated during his college days at Stetson University.
#44. Jarren Duran - Boston Red Sox
Jarren Duran's electric speed and improved hitting approach have transformed him into one of baseball's most dynamic leadoff hitters. The 28-year-old Boston Red Sox outfielder is coming off a career year in 2024 when he led MLB in plate appearances (735), at-bats (675), and doubles (48), while tying for the league lead with 14 triples.
Duran's blazing speed makes him a constant threat on the basepaths and allows him to cover exceptional ground in the outfield. His offensive game took a major leap forward in 2024 when he posted a .285/.342/.492 slash line with 111 runs, 24 home runs, and 75 RBIs, finishing eighth in American League MVP voting.
The California native was named to his first All-Star Game in 2024 and earned All-Star Game MVP honors after hitting a game-winning home run. His performance earned him a spot on the All-MLB Second Team.
After struggling early in his career, Duran has developed into Boston's catalyst at the top of the lineup. His combination of speed and developing power make him one of the most exciting players in the American League.
#43. Trea Turner - Philadelphia Phillies
Trea Turner continues to be one of baseball's most complete shortstops, combining exceptional speed with consistent hitting ability and developing power. In his second season with the Philadelphia Phillies, Turner earned his third career All-Star selection in 2024, starting at shortstop for the National League.
The 31-year-old shortstop brings elite baserunning skills to the Phillies, having stolen over 30 bases in six seasons throughout his career. In 2023, Turner set an MLB record by stealing 30 bases without being caught, demonstrating both speed and baseball intelligence on the basepaths.
Turner's career .295 batting average showcases his hitting ability, while his power continues to develop with 172 career home runs. After a slow start with Philadelphia in 2023, Turner caught fire after receiving a standing ovation from Phillies fans in August, batting .337 with 16 home runs over his final 48 games.
His postseason experience adds tremendous value to the Phillies, having won a World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019. Turner also excelled internationally, tying the World Baseball Classic home run record with five homers while representing Team USA in 2023.
#42. Teoscar Hernández - Los Angeles Dodgers
Teoscar Hernández's powerful bat and clutch hitting made him an essential piece of the Los Angeles Dodgers' World Series championship team in 2024. After signing with the Dodgers as a free agent, the 32-year-old outfielder delivered a stellar season with a .272 average, 33 home runs, and 99 RBIs.
Hernández earned his second career All-Star selection in 2024 and won his third Silver Slugger Award. His power was on full display when he won the 2024 Home Run Derby, becoming the first Dodger to capture the title.
In the 2024 postseason, Hernández delivered several clutch hits, including a grand slam in the NLDS against the Padres. He shined brightest in the World Series against the Yankees, batting .350 with a home run and four RBIs, including a game-tying two-run double off Gerrit Cole in the deciding fifth game.
The Dodgers recognized Hernández's value by signing him to a three-year, $66 million contract in January 2025. Known by the nickname "Mr. Seeds" for his tradition of throwing sunflower seeds at teammates after home runs, Hernández brings both production and personality to the Dodgers lineup.
#41. Jose Altuve - Houston Astros
Jose Altuve continues to cement his legacy as one of the greatest second basemen in baseball history. The 34-year-old Astros star is the longest-tenured current Houston player and the only remaining member from their National League days.
Altuve's remarkable career includes nine All-Star selections (a franchise record), three batting titles, two World Series championships, and the 2017 AL MVP award. Despite standing just 5'6", he has consistently proven that height is no barrier to baseball excellence.
In 2024, Altuve earned his ninth All-Star selection and seventh Silver Slugger Award, tying Ryne Sandberg for the most by any second baseman in MLB history. His career .306 batting average remains the highest among all active players.
Altuve's postseason accomplishments are particularly impressive. Through the 2024 postseason, he ranks second all-time in postseason home runs (27) and runs scored (89), third in hits (118), and seventh in RBIs (56). His ten go-ahead postseason home runs are the most in MLB history.
After signing a five-year, $125 million extension in February 2024, Altuve is set to remain an Astro until 2029. The team announced a position change for 2025, moving him to left field as he enters the next phase of his illustrious career.
