Bobblehead Bonus: Ohtani Homers Twice in Blowout Victory
Fans who showed up to Dodger Stadium on Thursday night got more than just a Shohei Ohtani bobblehead. They got to see him put on a show. Ohtani hit two home runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers cruised past the Oakland Athletics 19-2 in front of a packed and lively crowd.
The game was part of a special night honoring Ohtani’s remarkable 50-50 season last year, when he hit 50 home runs and stole 50 bases. To celebrate, the team handed out Ohtani bobbleheads, and the superstar added a little extra with his bat.
Two Big Swings from the Superstar
Ohtani got his night started with a sacrifice fly in the second inning, driving in the Dodgers' first run. But he didn’t stop there. In the third, during a wild seven-run rally, he launched a three-run homer to left-center field.
Then in the fourth inning, he did it again. This time, a two-run homer gave the Dodgers a 13-run lead. His six RBIs were a season high, and his home run total now sits at 15. That ties him for the league lead with Yankees slugger Aaron Judge and Phillies power hitter Kyle Schwarber.
Ohtani now has 15 home runs and 10 stolen bases, putting him on pace for over 50 homers and 36 steals. At this point last year, he had 12 homers and 10 steals. If he keeps it up, he could be on his way to another remarkable season.
Dodgers Bats Stay Hot
The Dodgers’ bats were on fire all night. They scored seven runs in a wild third inning, with Ohtani’s homer being the biggest hit of the frame. In the next inning, he wasn’t done yet, launching another homer that gave L.A. a massive 13-run lead.
It wasn’t just Ohtani who brought the power. The Dodgers hit a season-high five home runs in total. Third baseman Max Muncy, outfielder Andy Pages, and outfielder James Outman each added a homer of their own in the blowout win.
Dodgers Stay on Top of the NL West
This win improved the Dodgers’ record to 29-15, keeping them in first place in the National League West. They lead the division by one game and have been especially strong at home, with a 17-4 record at Dodger Stadium.
The team is looking strong as they try to make another run at the World Series. With stars like Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman leading the way, fans have a lot to be excited about this season.
More Bobblehead Nights on the Way
For fans who didn’t get a bobblehead this time, don’t worry. There are two more Shohei Ohtani bobblehead nights coming up later this year: August 27 against the Cincinnati Reds and September 10 against the Colorado Rockies. Every time Ohtani takes the field, it's a chance to see something exciting.
