2025 LitZone MLB Power Rankings: #15 - #11
Now let’s move onto the top 15 teams in the first edition of our power rankings. This group includes a mixture of up and comers as well as early season disappointments. Let’s take a look!
15. Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles land at fifteenth in our power rankings with one of baseball's most exciting young cores.
Gunnar Henderson has quickly established himself as a true superstar despite being just 23 years old. After winning Rookie of the Year, he backed it up with an impressive 37-homer season, showing he's the real deal.
Adley Rutschman provides a steady presence behind the plate with his excellent defense and consistent hitting. His ability to manage the pitching staff while contributing offensively makes him one of the most valuable catchers in baseball.
The Orioles' future depends on young talents like Colton Cowser, Jackson Holliday, and Jordan Westburg taking the next step in their development. These promising young players have shown flashes of brilliance but need to deliver consistent production at the major league level.
Baltimore's biggest question mark is their pitching staff after losing ace Corbin Burnes in free agency. Without a clear number one starter, the Orioles will need their young arms to step up if they hope to compete with the top teams in the league.
14. Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers come in at fourteen in our rankings, as they look to get back to the playoffs for the 3rd straight year.
Christian Yelich remains the heart of the team. He’s still a reliable hitter and leader, but can he keep carrying the lineup? The Brewers need him at his best.
Jackson Chourio is the team’s rising star. He has all the tools to be great, but now he has to prove it. If he takes the next step, the offense will be much stronger.
William Contreras was a force last season. He hit 20 home runs and nearly drove in 100 runs. If he keeps that up, the middle of the lineup will be dangerous.
The Brewers have the pieces to compete, but they need everything to click. If their stars perform and the pitching holds up, they’ll be in the mix. If not, it could be a long season.
13. Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox secure the thirteenth spot in our power rankings with a mix of established stars and intriguing newcomers.
Rafael Devers remains Boston's offensive centerpiece, now transitioning to a designated hitter role. The powerful lefty has consistently delivered elite production, but questions linger about whether moving away from third base will affect his focus at the plate. With his natural hitting ability, Devers looks to continue mashing home runs in the middle of Boston's lineup.
Jarren Duran faces the challenge of proving last season wasn't a fluke. After years of unfulfilled potential, he finally broke through with his speed and improving power. Now, opposing pitchers will adjust their approach against him, can Duran adjust and maintain his production?
Alex Bregman joins the Red Sox as a major offseason acquisition. The former Astros star brings his experience and clutch hitting to Boston, but at 31, some wonder if his best years are behind him. Taking over at third base for Devers, Bregman needs to prove he can still perform at an All-Star level.
Garrett Crochet represents Boston's biggest pitching gamble. The hard-throwing lefty showed flashes of brilliance in Chicago but has yet to establish himself as a reliable starter over a full season. The Red Sox are betting his electric stuff will translate to consistent excellence in their rotation.
If these key pieces perform to their potential, Boston could surprise many by climbing higher in these rankings as the season progresses.
12. Seattle Mariners
The Mariners claim the twelfth spot in our rankings with their incredible pitching staff but offensive question marks.
Julio Rodriguez possesses all the tools to be a superstar with his power, speed, and defensive ability. Despite these gifts, he's struggled to consistently put everything together at the same time. This season represents a crucial opportunity for Rodriguez to elevate his game and become the offensive force Seattle desperately needs.
The Mariners boast perhaps baseball's best starting rotation with the impressive trio of Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Luis Castillo. Gilbert's rising fastball, Kirby's pinpoint control, and Castillo's electric stuff give Seattle a chance to win every night. On the mound, few teams can match their talent.
However, the story remains the same for Seattle, can they score enough runs? Despite opportunities to add another impact bat during the offseason, the Mariners largely stood pat. Their formula is to ride elite pitching while hoping the offense can do just enough.
11. Houston Astros
The Astros land at eleventh in our power rankings as they face major changes to their championship core.
Yordan Alvarez steps into the spotlight as Houston's undisputed superstar. His incredible power makes him one of baseball's most feared hitters, but this season brings new pressure. With the departure of key teammates, can Alvarez shoulder even more of the offensive burden for the team?
Jose Altuve, the heart and soul of the Astros for over a decade, battles against time and position changes. At 35, he is showing signs of decline, but his competitive spirit remains. Moving to a new defensive position adds another challenge for the former MVP as he works to extend his career.
Framber Valdez continues to be the rock of Houston's pitching staff. Known for his devastating sinker and ability to generate ground balls, Valdez must now step up as the undisputed ace. The Astros will lean heavily on his consistency every fifth day.
After losing cornerstone players in Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker, Houston faces their biggest challenge in years. Can this retooled roster maintain the Astros' dominance in the AL West, or are they finally fading? Despite the changes, counting out this organization has proven foolish in the past.
