New Faces, New Places: NFL Edition
The NFL offseason brought some big changes as star players found new homes. Let's look at five major moves that could shake up the league.
1. DK Metcalf Goes to Pittsburgh
DK Metcalf is now wearing black and gold after the Seattle Seahawks traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers gave up their 52nd pick in the 2025 draft to get the big receiver.
Metcalf has struggled to live up to expectatiins over the past few seasons. Even though he's caught for over 900 yards five years in a row, many fans have wanted more from the 6-foot-4, 230-pound speedster. At 28 years old, he's looking for a fresh start in Pittsburgh.
The good news for Metcalf? He'll be catching passes from Aaron Rodgers, who also joined the Steelers. This should be a big upgrade for both players.
2. Aaron Rodgers Tries Again in Pittsburgh
Speaking of Aaron Rodgers, the 41-year-old quarterback is getting another shot at a championship with the Steelers. He signed a one-year deal worth $13.65 million.
Rodgers is getting older and isn't the same player he used to be. After tearing his Achilles tendon, he's not the Hall of Fame quarterback who could be compared to Tom Brady anymore. His time with the New York Jets didn't go well, and now he's hoping Pittsburgh can help him finish his career on a high note.
The Steelers had problems at quarterback last year, cycling through Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. Rodgers should bring more experience and accuracy to the position.
3. Davante Adams Joins the Rams
Davante Adams signed with the Los Angeles Rams for two years and $46 million. The 32-year-old receiver will be sharing the field with veteran quarterback and Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford, but he has some big shoes to fill.
Adams is also getting older, but he's joining a quarterback who has a good track record with receivers. Stafford has supported great players like Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua in the past. This could help Adams have a strong season even as he ages.
Adams is replacing former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp, who the Rams released before he signed with Seattle.
4. Cooper Kupp Heads to Seattle
Cooper Kupp is still playing at a high level despite being 32 years old. The former Super Bowl MVP signed a three-year, $45 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks.
Kupp will be catching passes from Sam Darnold, who just came off a great season in Minnesota where he threw 35 touchdowns while working with superstar wider receiver Justin Jefferson. Kupp joins as the second option behind up and coming wide receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba.
Hopefully, Darnold's success in supporting a top receiver will translate to his new team with Kupp.
Justin Fields Gets a Fresh Start with the Jets
The New York Jets have had a revolving door at quarterback for years, with different players coming and going like musical chairs. Now they're hoping Justin Fields can be the answer.
Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets. While he's never been known as the most accurate thrower, he showed flashes of good play in limited time last year. What makes Fields special is his ability to run, he's one of the fastest quarterbacks in the league.
At just 26 years old, Fields gives the Jets a young, athletic quarterback who can make plays with both his arm and his legs. If the team can build an offense around his running ability, he could potentially give New York the stability they've been looking for at the position.
What This All Means
These moves show that teams are trying to find the right mix of veteran experience and young talent. Some players like Rodgers and Kupp are trying to prove they still have something left in the tank. Others like Fields and Metcalf are looking for a fresh start to reach their potential.
The 2025 season should be exciting to watch as these players try to make their mark in new cities.
