Philly’s Powerhouse: Schwarber Delivers Again
Kyle Schwarber powered the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday Night Baseball, hitting two home runs and continuing a red-hot stretch at the plate. The win improved the Phillies’ record to 24-17, keeping them in second place in the NL East, just two games behind the first-place New York Mets.
Schwarber’s performance was the highlight of the night. In the second inning, he crushed a solo home run off Guardians starter Luis Ortiz, giving the Phillies an early 1-0 lead. Then, in the eighth inning, he launched a 397-foot home run off reliever Tim Herrin, giving the Phillies some key insurance runs and sealing the shutout win.
Schwarber Ties MLB Home Run Lead, Extends On-Base Streak
Schwarber’s two home runs brought his season total to 14, tying him with Yankees star Aaron Judge for the most in Major League Baseball. But Schwarber isn’t just hitting homers. He’s also getting on base every game. He is riding a 46-game on-base streak that stretches back to last season. That means he has reached base in every game by a hit, walk, or hit-by-pitch for nearly 50 straight games. That kind of consistency makes him one of the most valuable hitters in baseball.
Since joining the Phillies in 2022, Schwarber has hit 145 home runs, which is second in MLB during that time behind only Judge’s 171. A two-time All-Star, Schwarber has become a fan favorite and a leader in the clubhouse with his power, personality, and hustle.
What’s Next for Schwarber and the Phillies?
Schwarber is set to become a free agent after this season, meaning he can sign with any team unless the Phillies agree to a new deal with him. But Schwarber has said he would like to stay in Philadelphia, and his teammates agree.
Superstar Bryce Harper made his feelings clear:
“I don’t want him to go anywhere else,” Harper said, calling on the front office to keep Schwarber in Philly for the long term. (MLB.com)
Phillies fans are hoping the front office makes the right move and that Schwarber stays right where he belongs.
With Schwarber’s power at the plate and leadership in the dugout, keeping him in Philadelphia is about more than numbers. It’s about team chemistry, winning culture, and a fan base that has embraced him as one of their own.
