Rookie Jasson Dominguez Makes Yankees History
New York Yankees rookie outfielder Jasson Dominguez had a night to remember. The 22-year-old became the youngest player in Yankees history to hit three home runs in a single game. At just 22 years and 91 days old, Dominguez broke a record set all the way back in 1937 by Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio.
Dominguez came into the game with only two home runs this season. By the end of the night, he had more than doubled that total. He left the field with five home runs and raised his batting average to .250.
Power from Both Sides of the Plate
What made the night even more impressive is how he did it. Dominguez is a switch hitter, meaning he can bat from both the left and right sides of the plate. He hit two home runs from the left side and one from the right. It was his first career homer from that side in the majors.
His first homer was a solo shot in the third inning off pitcher Osvaldo Bido. Then in the fifth, he helped the team again with a sacrifice fly. In the seventh inning, he blasted another solo homer, this time from the right side, off Hogan Harris. But he was not done yet. In the eighth inning, he hit a grand slam, a home run with the bases loaded, off Elvis Alvarado.
Teammates Celebrate Dominguez’s Big Moment
“Tonight was special,” Dominguez said. “When I hit the third one, I was telling myself, ‘No way. There’s no way.’”
Even Yankees star Aaron Judge was excited. “To see him have a game like this tonight, three homers, it’s just special,” Judge said. “I think you see the excitement of everybody in the dugout on each homer.”
A Bright Future Ahead
Dominguez has been one of the Yankees’ most talked-about young players. He is ranked the team’s number one prospect and is number 21 overall on MLB.com’s top prospects list. Now, with a performance like this, he is proving why there is so much hype.
Jasson Dominguez's big game is not just a moment for the record books. It could be the start of something very special for the Yankees’ future.
