Welcome to LitZone Baseball!
Where Sports Meets Reading
Do you love sports? If so, LitZone is the perfect place for you!
Every day, we publish exciting sports news and fun articles about all things baseball! You’ll learn about your favorite teams, players, the science behind the game, and much more.
But here's the best part! When you read and complete your daily vocabulary exercises, you’ll earn XP that you can use to unlock new players and power up your team.
Play Against Your Friends
Each week, you’ll go head-to-head with a friend in your Lit League. Your team earns points based on how your real-life MLB players perform. You can boost your score by reading every day and doing your vocab work. The more you read, the more powerful your team becomes. To win, you’ll need to stay consistent and focused!
Player Positions in LitZone
In LitZone, your team has four positions:
- Pitcher (P) – Earns points for pitching stats like strikeouts, wins, and innings pitched. Most pitchers only pitch once or twice a week.
- Outfielder (OF) – These are players in left field, center field, or right field. They are batters and usually play nearly every day.
- Infielder (IF) – These are first basemen, second basemen, shortstops, and third basemen. Like outfielders, they are batters who play almost every day.
- Utility (UTIL) – This spot can be filled by any player, including catchers. Catchers usually play fewer games per week, but they still earn points through their batting stats.
Since batters play almost every day and pitchers only pitch once or twice per week, it’s important to balance your team and make sure you have strong players in every position.
LitZone Scoring System
Here’s how you earn points based on your players’ stats. Every stat below helps your team score points, or sometimes lose points, in your weekly matchups.
Batting Stats (IF & OF)
RBI – Runs Batted In (1 point) A batter gets an RBI when they hit the ball and help a teammate score a run.
HR – Home Run (2.5 points) A home run is when the batter hits the ball out of the park and scores automatically.
3B – Triple (2 points) A triple is when a batter makes it safely to third base on one hit.
2B – Double (1.5 points) A double is when a batter hits the ball and makes it to second base.
1B – Single (1 point) A single is a basic hit that gets the batter to first base.
R – Run (1 point) A run is scored when a player safely makes it around all the bases and crosses home plate.
BB – Walk (0.5 points) A walk happens when the pitcher throws four balls and the batter gets to go to first base for free.
HBP – Hit By Pitch (0.5 points) If a player gets hit by the ball, they go to first base and you earn points.
SB – Stolen Base (1 point) A stolen base is when a player runs to the next base without the batter hitting the ball.
SO – Strikeout (-0.5 points) A strikeout means the batter missed three pitches. This takes away points.
CS – Caught Stealing (-1 point) If a player tries to steal a base and gets tagged out, you lose a point.
Pitching Stats (P)
K – Strikeout (1.5 points) When a pitcher strikes out a batter, you earn points.
W – Win (3 points) If the pitcher’s team wins the game and the pitcher gets credit, you earn 3 points.
S – Save (3 points) A save is when a pitcher finishes a game and keeps the other team from coming back. It earns big points.
HLD – Hold (3 points) A hold is when a relief pitcher keeps the lead during their time on the mound.
IP – Inning Pitched (2 points) Pitchers earn 2 points for every inning they pitch.
CS – Caught Stealing (1 point) If the pitcher or catcher helps get a runner out who is trying to steal, you earn a point.
H – Hit Allowed (-0.5 points) Pitchers lose points when the other team gets a hit off them.
R – Run Allowed (-1 point) Each run given up by the pitcher costs you a point.
ER – Earned Run (-1 point) If a pitcher is responsible for a run scoring, it’s called an earned run and takes away a point.
BB – Walk Allowed (-0.5 points) When the pitcher throws four balls and gives up a walk, it costs half a point.
HR – Home Run Allowed (-1 point) If the pitcher gives up a home run, it subtracts a point from your score.
L – Loss (-2 points) If the pitcher’s team loses and they’re responsible, it’s a loss and costs 2 points.
HBP – Hit By Pitch (-0.5 points) If the pitcher hits a batter with a pitch, you lose half a point.
