The Eastern Conference playoff picture is getting clearer as the season winds down. Some teams are fighting for the top spot. Others battle just to make the postseason. Week 20 showed us who's rising and who's falling.
Fighting for the Number One Seed
Detroit sits alone at the top. The Pistons are 47-18 and look unstoppable right now. Cade Cunningham controls games like a chess master. Jalen Duren powers through defenders near the basket. Detroit won both games this week, crushing Philadelphia and Brooklyn. They lead by four and a half games over everyone else.
Boston trails at 43-23 but lost both games this week. The Celtics played without key players and couldn't hold on against tough opponents. When healthy, Boston has championship talent. They just need everyone back on the court.
Home Court in the First Round
New York, Cleveland, and Orlando sit in positions three through five. These teams want home court advantage in round one. The Knicks are 42-25 and won a wild comeback against Utah. Cleveland stands at 40-26 but dropped a shootout to Orlando. The Magic are heating up at 37-28 with two straight wins. Desmond Bane has caught fire for Orlando lately.
Miami and Toronto round out spots six and seven. The Heat won both games behind role players stepping up huge. Toronto lost twice and needs to find their rhythm fast.
The Play-In Battle
Atlanta and Philadelphia share eighth and ninth place at 35-31. The Hawks won both games behind Jalen Johnson's all-around play. The 76ers are struggling without their injured stars. Charlotte sits tenth at 34-33 and won both games. LaMelo Ball is leading the young Hornets forward.
Missing the Playoffs
Milwaukee at 27-38 needs a miracle. The Bucks lost twice and sit eleventh. Giannis played well but couldn't lift his team. Chicago, Brooklyn, Washington, and Indiana are all out of playoff contention. These teams focus on developing young talent for next season.
The race tightens every night. One hot streak changes everything. The final weeks will decide who makes it and who goes home.
