The Lakers turned their home court into a scoring festival Thursday night. Luka Doncic put on a show with 51 points as Los Angeles beat Chicago 142-130.
Doncic Dominates
Doncic was unstoppable from start to finish. He filled the stat sheet with 51 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists. The superstar guard hit shots from everywhere on the floor. He shot better than 50 percent and made defenders look helpless. This is what the Lakers traded for last season. Doncic is averaging about 33 points per game this year as the team's new cornerstone. He looked like an MVP candidate all night long.
Reaves Rises Up
Austin Reaves gave Doncic plenty of help. The shooting guard dropped 30 points on amazing 65 percent shooting. He added 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Reaves has become a true second option this season, averaging about 25 points per game. His development has been huge for Los Angeles.
Deandre Ayton controlled the paint with 23 points and 10 rebounds. LeBron James added 18 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds at age 40. The legend keeps contributing even as his role changes.
Bulls Fight Back
Chicago didn't quit despite playing without injured guards Anfernee Simons and Jaden Ivey. Josh Giddey led the way with 27 points, 15 assists, and 8 rebounds. He showed why the Bulls made him their playmaker. Giddey pushed the ball up the court and created chances for teammates.
Young forward Matas Buzelis scored 22 points with 6 rebounds. The athletic second-year player continues showing flashes of his potential. Tre Jones added 18 points off the bench.
The game stayed close early. The first quarter ended tied at 26. But the Lakers pulled away in the second half behind Doncic's brilliance.
Looking Ahead
The Lakers improve to 41-25 and sit third in the Western Conference. Chicago falls to 27-39 as their rebuild continues. The Bulls hope to add talent through the draft this summer.
