The Western Conference playoff race is heating up like a furnace. With just weeks left in the regular season, every game matters more than ever. Teams are fighting for position like warriors preparing for battle.
The Race for Number One
The Oklahoma City Thunder sit on top at 51-15. They're the defending champions and they're playing like it. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander glides to the basket like he's skating on ice. The Thunder just beat Denver in a nail-biter on Monday night. SGA scored 35 points and dished out 15 assists while making tough shots look easy.
Chasing them are the San Antonio Spurs at 48-17. Victor Wembanyama is unstoppable right now. The 7-foot-4 star dropped 39 points against Boston on Tuesday. He moves like no other big man in basketball. The Spurs are only 2.5 games back. This race could go down to the final week.
Fighting for Home Court
The middle of the pack is packed tight. Houston, the Lakers, Denver, and Minnesota are all 40-26 or better. They're battling for home court advantage in the first round. The Rockets just got crushed by Denver 129-93 on Wednesday. Missing Fred VanVleet and other injured players hurt them badly.
The Lakers are rolling with Luka Doncic leading the way. He recorded a triple-double against Minnesota on Tuesday with 31 points, 11 assists, and 11 rebounds. Denver's Nikola Jokic keeps stuffing the stat sheet. He had a triple-double Wednesday with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists against Houston.
The Play-In Battle
Phoenix sits seventh at 38-27. Devin Booker and his teammates just won two straight games. The Clippers are eighth at 33-32. Kawhi Leonard exploded for 45 points against Minnesota on Wednesday. Golden State at 32-33 is fighting to avoid missing the playoffs completely. Without injured Stephen Curry, the Warriors have struggled.
Portland sits tenth at 31-35. They're hanging on by a thread.
Missing the Playoffs
Memphis, New Orleans, Dallas, Utah, and Sacramento are all out of the race. These teams are building for the future. Their young players are learning what it takes to win at this level.
